Colleagues at a Midlands motorcycle manufacturer who spent the last two years taking part in various fundraising activities have revved up £20,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Shirley-based Norton Motorcycles has been supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity since May 2023, when a staff poll revealed the local institution as its charity of the year.

The team kickstarted their fundraising by signing up to swap their bikes for boats to take part in the charity’s annual Dragon Boat Race and, led by the company’s ‘Social Impact Committee’, over the past year the motorbike-mad team held samosa sales, bike rides and a family-fun day, complete with big prize raffles to support their fundraising.

Norton Motorcycles also supported the hospital through the Christmas period, signing up to the charity’s Magic Makers initiative to bring festive cheer to the hospital, as well as pulling on their Christmas sweaters and making personal donations for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Jolly Jumper Day.

The colleagues’ support hasn’t only been financial though, as members of Norton’s ‘Volunteering and Outreach team organised a special ride-out to Birmingham Children’s Hospital so that brave patients and their families could see and sit on some iconic Norton Motorcycles in person. The motorcycles even played a part in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workshop the team held for patient-pupils at the hospital’s school.

Laura Mason-Byers, Head of Internal Communications and Engagement at Norton Motorcycles, said: “Giving our employees the chance to choose and vote to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity has meant that every single one of them has been so invested in all of our fundraising activities.

It’s been so good to see everyone come together and be creative about how we can use our skills and resources to raise money and directly help the hospital’s patients and provide exciting experiences. We’re over the moon to have been able to support the hospital for a second year.”

Katie Harris, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “The support the team at Norton Motorcycles has shown us from day one of the partnership has blown us away. They’ve gone above and beyond to raise vital funds to support our hospital and they’ve never been afraid to get stuck in.

“The funds Norton Motorcycles has raised over the past two years will help us improve experiences for countless brave patients. We’re so grateful.”
