West Midlands Regional Centre For Cleft Lip & Palate

Cleft Lip and Palate is a relatively common condition. About 1 in 700 children in this country are born with a cleft lip and/or palate. The Regional Service for the West Midlands is based at Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Trust and University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. The team includes of cleft surgeons, paediatric dentists, orthodontists, speech & language therapists, ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeons, a geneticist and specialist nurses. A Cleft Co-ordinator organises the service.

Throughout treatment, the team maintains links with health professionals in local hospitals and community services.

We expect to keep in touch with patients until they are 15 years old at which point they will be transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for continuation of their care into Adult Services.
